This is a special two-part event held in downtown Watertown. The event will begin out front of City Hall for a guided walk and talk through the city’s Urban Arboretum. The arboretum has over 35 different species of trees and is located on both private and public property between Sterling and Stone Street one block south of Public Square. By joining the walk you will learn about the trees and invasive pests that threaten the health of the trees, along with an opportunity to join an Adopt a Tree program to monitor the trees for signs of health decline.
After the walk, the Downtown Local Lounge and Spokes will give special offers to those who attended the walk.
Also, after the walk, Downtown Local Lounge will be showing an exciting and informative 55-minute documentary by the Westfield Production Company called Uninvited: The Spread of Invasive Species. The documentary introduces the concept of invasive species and highlights some of the species threatening New York’s environment and economy, while also showing some innovative ways that New York State is combatting these threats. Uninvited features the collaborative work of the NYS DEC and its partners including the NYS Department of Agriculture & Markets, the eight Partnerships for Regional Invasive Species Management (PRISMs), and New York State Invasive Species Research Institute (NYISRI), and more. Use your ticket to enter a raffle to win prizes after the documentary viewing.
