ISAW Hike and History Cruise with Hudson Crossing Park

June 4 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Free

Thanks to a grant from the New York State Canal System, we are again partnering with Hudson Crossing Park to provide a unique Champlain Canal Adventure – half history cruise, half environmental hike. Each adventure will be limited to 12 participants, so make your reservation early as they will fill up fast.

The 12 participants* will be split into two groups. Six will board the Caldwell Belle and start with a double lock-through of Lock C5 before heading north along the Canal to Hudson Crossing Park’s Eagle Point. On this trip, park historians will share lesser-known tales of the Champlain Canal and the old Saratoga Region.

The second group of six will proceed to the Eagle Point Trail for an easy 1.25 mile hike to Northumberland Falls at Eagle Point. A park guide will lead the way, sharing park history and discuss the park’s environmental stewardship efforts as well as discussing the park’s wildlife.

At Eagle Point, the passengers will disembark for the return hike, while the hikers will board the Caldwell Belle to also experience a double lock-though of Lock C5 before returning to the dock.

Joining the event is Kate Litrell, PhD and Senior Environmental Scientists with NYS Canal Corporation, and she will discuss aquatic invasive species (AIS) in the canals, why we need to protect the Canals, and what people can do to prevent the spread of AIS.
