Invasive Species/Watershed Educator sought for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Yates County

The Cornell Cooperative Extension County Association of Yates County (Penn Yan, NY), is seeking an Invasive Species/Watershed Educator.

Position responsibilities include:

Invasive Species

  • Establish a multi-county invasive species extension education program advisory network.
  • Assist participating PRISMs (Partnerships for Regional Invasive Species Management) and CCE County Associations in planning short- and long-term invasive species extension education programs and activities.
  • Foster stakeholder awareness and understanding of invasive species issues.
  • Develop innovative invasive species education programs and materials in a multi-county region.

Watershed

  • Establish a watershed extension education program advisory network.
  • Foster stakeholder awareness and understanding of watershed and water quality issues.
  • Develop innovative watershed/water quality education programs and materials.

Regarding invasive species, this individual will

  • Assist the Cornell Cooperative Extension Invasive Species Program in the distribution of invasive species extension education materials.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise on invasive species issues to other Extension educators and PRISM members; disseminate locally-relevant, non-biased, science-based invasive species information for use by varied stakeholders. Update content on CCE and PRISM websites as needed.
  • Provide leadership in conducting or facilitating invasive species components of existing adult and youth educational programming including but not limited to Master Gardener Volunteer training, 4-H programs, and scouting.
  • Assist PRISMs and partner CCE County Associations to provide outreach on invasive species issues using exhibits and displays at various public events.
  • Interact with multi-county CCE committees, Cornell program specialists and faculty, PRISM members and program participants to evaluate invasive species extension education.
  • Create marketing materials communicating program impacts to target audiences.

Position Requirements

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution required in plant science, horticulture, agronomy, agriculture, water resources, natural resources, environmental science, entomology, or closely related field.
  • Subject-matter-based expertise with ability to communicate technical and scientific invasive species and watershed information to stakeholders and the general public.
  • Ability to initiate, plan/organize, implement, teach and evaluate extension invasive species and watershed education programs for youth and adult audiences.

Position is Part Time (32 hours/week). Salary $32,000 per year plus benefits. Position is dependent upon grant funding.  No relocation assistance available.
