Water chestnut found in Braddock Bay

Faculty and students from the Department of Environmental Science and Biology at Brockport State College confirmed the existence of a very small patch of water chestnut (Trapa natans) in the submerged aquatic vegetation (SAV) zone in the cove behind the east spit of Braddock Bay, Town of Greece, Monroe County. Unless removed, this sighting, in a heavily trafficked embayment of Lake Ontario could prove to become a seed population for introduction of this aquatic invaders into Lake Ontario or, on trailered boats, into other waters of New York State.
